Northampton Charity Helping Ukrainian Community with Job Skills Training

Updated: Mar 29

Northampton-based Cohesive Society CIC has started a new project engaging the Ukrainian migrants in the county. Cohesive Society has initiated a training programme for the community to learn" Job Skills ".

On the 29th of November 2022, the CIC launched this pilot project after prolonged consultations with the Ukrainian community members over the last three months.

Founder of Cohesive Society Imran Chowdhury B.E.M, a renowned philanthropist and community champion, said in his inaugural speech," This heinous war has displaced the Ukrainian community. There are now living in a dire state; so many highly educated professionals, teachers, economists and social workers with University degrees had to flee their country and are now living in the UK without a job; it in itself is a massive waste of potential skilful workforce, when we are cruising through a skill shortage phase ourselves.

We are trying to give the member of the community skills which will make them fit for employment in UK businesses, industries, offices, schools, colleges, and private and public sectors.

Cohesive Society plans to run this initiative around the year. The training is free of charge, and the participants will be able to learn physically and hybrid way too.''

The CIC will run the programme three days a week from their offices. A total of 10 hours of training in 5/6 modules will allow the participants to receive certificates after completing the course.

Ukrainian community spokesperson and one of the training participants, Ms Valentian Bukovska, commented that ''the possibility of learning the job skills is a significant support and help for the Ukrainian people. We all are in a stage of building our lives from the very beginning; it is difficult to do by ourselves in a new country, so any information, training, and knowledge about how everything works here are very beneficial. This learning will undoubtedly allow us to gain confidence in professional fields and job searching. Also, such training will give all people from Ukraine that we can use our fundamental professional skills and be helpful to the UK society and economy.''

The training will be jointly provided by Cohesive Society and Stunited.
